SOUND INSTALLATION

 

Cables, computer screens, instruments, and other everyday objects serve as the material for Albert Mayr’s works, which operate at the intersection of sound, sculpture, and performance. He often makes only minor alterations to remove these objects from their familiar contexts. In his installations, they suddenly function differently, prompting a shift of perspective. Albert Mayr studied graphic design and new media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. As artist-in-residence, the Scheibbs native of has chosen to work in the castle courtyard, one of the city's most poetic locations. Inspired by the rain, he lets water drip onto drums. Sometimes soft and restrained, then thundering and intense. The surrounding space becomes a resonating body through which these rhythmic patterns echo, offering a new experience of the environment.
